The Cool Book That I Am Reading For My Book Club

 In my class we have book clubs and you read a section of the book and then fill out a sheet and meet and fill your job sheet out. The book my group reading is Dark Stone Eye. Its a really cool fantasy book about this dark stone. What we do is get in our groups talk about the section that we red and tell all the stuff on our ticket to the person who has that job and then we go and do our jobs. When were done we can read the next part and fill out the next ticket but when were done those we can draw our covers. The jobs are publicist the publicist has to get all the favorite parts and decide on witch part is the best and explain why. the illustrator has to get all the favorite parts and draw the most favored one. The Editor has to get the the not known words and get the definitions of them. The Translator has to get the figurative language and has to tell what kind and the meaning.

Geometry

 Today for math we went outside and looked for examples of parallel lines, vertical lines, perpendicular lines and Horizontal lines. I didn't have to go very far I found all my lines very close to the class room all not very hard to find if came you could easily find all my lines maybe try to do it at your house.

What Is A Polygon?

 What Is A Polygon?

A polygon stands for many sides and in the picture bellow shows the names for the amount of sides.

In this picture I had to sort out all the polygons from the non polygons and the way to find that out is the simple steps of seeing if there 2D  and have straight lines they have to be connected and have no overlapping lines.

Cultural festival

Cultural fest was a pretty good time. We had to practice a lot and sometimes we went into break which was annoying but had to be done. Some of our group was mucking around and they didn't get their breaks some days we practice for hours 3 to be exact. It was annoying doing a lot of practise but it paid off. I really wanted  to give up on Cultural Fest but I could not. I had to keep going and keep practising because I had to and it was a good thing that I didn’t. Because if I did I would not have got a tee shirt from my mum and then I would be sad and regret it.

When we arrived we got into our uniform and it was very cold. I wish the uniform was warm but it was cold. Just before we went on we were back stage and it was warm and felt much better and we had to be super dooper quiet because if we went too loud the stage mics would pick it up and then that would be on the video of the school before us and that would just be annoying. When we finally got on stage it was all good all the practice paid off and then we went off stage.

After our performance  we went into the stand and watched some of the other schools performances. At half time there was a tee shirt cannon shot. I sadly didn’t get one for my friend. And that was that but overall super good but when we got back to school I almost lost my tee shirt because someone kicked it under a shelf but I found it in the end with the help of my friends but its all good.

Skiing

 On the twenty second of September the year 7&8's went skiing, we could choose to ski or snowboard I decided to snowboard because I had done it before. When we first got there it was freezing and I wanted to get on the slopes quickly or I would have frozen. When we got on the slopes we were taught how to snowboard I already knew how to snowboard. For me it was a recap and I was one of the best in the group but I sucked at getting up the pulling thing I got up to the top once, it was a great view of most of porters. When the wind picked up I went flying down. Over all amazing experience.

This picture is me getting ready.

How To Find The Area Of A Square/rectangle

 How to find the area of a square/rectangle

All you have to do is multiply the length by the width so here is an example.

6m

12m

A=L X W

12 X 6 = 72 sq metres so all you have to do is times the length by the width and  boom done.

and when you have two boxes together

                             8m

7m2m

            4m

 Area 1: A= lxw

4 X 7= 28 sq metres

  Area 2: A= lxw

 2 X 8= 16 sq metres

Area 1 + Area 2

28 sq m + 16 sq m = 44 sq m total area. I need to remember to add the two areas together.

Maths-Circumference

 Maths

Today in maths we were measuring the circumference of the big circle on the court. I found that it was 50.24 of my feet, and last week I found that four of my feet were 1 metre. Which means it was 12.56 metres

The formula to find the circumference of a circle involves knowing what the diameter is.

C =  pi x Diameter
   = 3.14 x 12.56m
   = 39.43m

I worked it out another way as well.
The way I found it was by

I converted my feet lengths which came to 12.56 metres which became the diameter.

Diameter=12.56
C= 3.14 x 12.56m = 39.43m

Adrenalin Forest Trip On Wednesday The 12th

 On Wednesday the 12th we went to the Adrenalin Forest, If you don't know what Adrenalin Forest is you climb up trees with challenges  and zip lines its really fun and a cool experience. Caspian, Mailli, Alexa, Giovanni and I went on 5b witch was really high about 25 meters up, the zip lines were so cool and I hated the ladders.

On the final zip line to the end was so far and I got so much speed I was going at least 30km it was so fast it took a while for every one to go onto it. But I had to go down a ladder to get to down to the final witch was not fun because I had to wait on the ladder.

On 3b Pretty much every one did and I was one of the first to finish. It was harder than 5b apart from the ladders man I hatted the ladders they took way to long. I also got stuck for about 5 minuets because one of the clippers got stuck I still got out.

You should try it.

Maths-Volume

 Maths

cost of concrete to fill is $4 per cubic metre =

Mau Rakau and bone carving

Every Wednesday we do mau rakau and bone carving with some of the year 7&8 our teachers are Chris and Kevin . It is a really cool thing to learn and a very good experience.

Some of the moves are whakata, tumatauenga and toropaipai. Some of the moves are complicated and others are easy. One of my friend fainted in the first week it was pretty funny he was all right tho.

In bone carving we are doing some very cool designs and I think that mine looks amazing and that mine is the best of them all. I chose to do a fishing hook as the design again an amazing experience.  Its so fun and it is a really cool looking bone carving.

What I found out about my estimation process?

Estimating up to 100m

I found that I am pretty good at estimating up to 100m and that I was very close to all of them.  I should estimate distances more often.

Estimating up to 5m and 10m.

I found that when I was estimating this I was not that good and I missed 5m by 1m and 10m by 2m. We did the 5m metres and then the 10m, I didn’t do as well on the short distance but I did do well on the long distance.

We were told to use the distance of a football field to measure 100m and that it would make it easier to estimate. I have to imagine how many football fields between me and my object that I am estimating too.

"By pillow I have a real friend now" Bob said

Te Wiki Tuatoru subtraction L2 my first math questions after the week end

Gold Subtraction

Choose the problem/ problems you want to solve. Show how you solved the problem.

  1. Te Rangi helped mum pick 126 Rauti leaves to make dance costumes. They only used 119 leaves. How many leaves were left over?

  1. Juniors family set up 120 chairs for his sister's wedding ceremony. Not all his family turned up. There were 17 spare chairs. How many family members turned up?

 1.    There Are 7 Rauti leaves left. I worked this out by subtracting the hundred first. Then 9 from 26 which is 17 then I took 10 of 17 and got 7. so there it is, the answer is 7.

 2. There were 103 family members there. All I did was take away 17 of 20 and put back the hundred and boom 103.

1.  Yvonne has 19/24 feathers left. I worked that out by turning it into 24th's 3 times 8 =24 1 times 3=3 so 3/24 then 6 times 4=24 4 times 2 =8 and that is 8/24 8 times 3 = 24 8 times 1= 8 and boom 8/24. 3/24 + 8/24 + 8/24 = 19/24.
